Avon Backdoor Holiday Gift Show, Avon Senior Center, Avon, CT Dec 1, 2007. This is more of a craft show than arts. I am on the higher end and appeared to do the best of the 25 exhibitors. A friend who does small paintings also did well - people wanted the better crafts when available. Pretty good traffic, the street is a main road. Registration is cheap. This is run through the Avon Italian Club as a benefit for a scholarship fund. Organizer is very nice/helpful and very organized. Free coffee/tea and inexpensive homemade soups, sandwiches available. Would do again. Farmington Arts and Craft Show, Farmington High School, Farmington Valley Women's Club, Farmington, CT April 4 - 6. This show was disappointing. For the 2 days there were maybe 100 people. It seemed as if little advertising was done. Will not do again. Litchfield Arts and Crafts Show, Litchfield Green, Jr. Women's Club, Litchfield, CT, June 7. The fee was raised $30 over last year. Little apparent advertising (except a few signs). They sold T-shirts, asked for raffle items, sold so many kid items, big time fundraiser. No caring for crafts exhibitors. Celebrate West Hartford, West Hartford, CT, June 14 - 15. Great Show! She does such a good job with promoting, advertising, organizing the volunteers, limiting the categories, and jurying the artists. I could have bought from any of the booths. Business very good on Saturday and an early crowd on Sunday made up for the "tornado" that hit around 4 pm causing the show to close down. Milford Arts Council Fine Arts and Crafts Show, Milford Town Green, Milford, CT July 5 - 6. 1. Cool, cloudy weather kept people off the beaches and at the show. Way too much beaded jewelry. I am not from the area so I can't really comment on the advertising. 2. Very interesting mix of crafts. Some really great things and also some lower end things that really didn't belong there. Fairly good crowd. Would do again. 8th Annual Hyannis Arts and Craft Show, Community Affairs, Hyannis, MA July 25 - 26. There were no bathrooms available, no food vendors, no promoter that I met, no people and maybe 20 crafters. Everyone there was a first timer at that show and that told us that the promoter was not doing a good job. When I called and asked for my location number for Saturday, and she said "take the first spot you see that you like with a wooden stick", I knew things were not going to be good. I was told ahead of time that there were no food vendors, but no facilities? No one at that show will do it again. If you want an adventure, like I did and want to do a show on Cape Cod, do not call these people for an application. While I was there, I found a 2-day show - always the last weekend in July put on by the Lions Club of Dennis. Over 50 crafters and mega parking with three people directing traffic. See you all there! |
